WORSHIP

Worship is central to all that we do at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Charles. We offer two Sunday worship experiences. Both feature a sermon based on the Bible, but aimed at today’s challenges and needs.

“The Gathering” is the name for our contemporary service, which starts at 9:00 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall upstairs. Many of the worshipers come dressed casually. A music team with guitars and a keyboard leads us in praise-filled singing. Trip Wamsley is leader of the Praise Team.

At 11:00 A.M., a traditional worship service is celebrated in the sanctuary. First Presbyterian Church has a beautiful sanctuary, with stained glass windows and a magnificent organ. A chancel choir leads the singing, which ranges from beloved and well known classic hymns to newer hymns. Chris Miller is Chancel Choir director. The choir practices most Thursday nights at 7:00 P.M., and welcomes new members.

We celebrate Communion at both services on the first Sunday of each month. Baptisms are held at both services as well. Our commitment to the unity and fellowship of Christ’s people has led us to celebrate a full-church Communion service one Sunday each quarter. We alternate between the sanctuary and fellowship hall, and both the chancel choir and the contemporary music team work together in leading the singing and special music. The Youth of the church help prepare and lead at least two services each year, including preaching the sermon.

We also offer worship services for special days in the Christian year, with a Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent, a Candlelight Communion Service on Christmas Eve, a service on Ash Wednesday, special worship on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and two services on Easter Sunday.
