First Presbyterian Church-Lake Charles has well over a century of tradition in the Lake Charles area, having survived fires, economic changes in the community and hurricanes.  Strong programs, vibrant mission efforts, and exceptional music have all been hallmarks of this church.  St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, another active area church, began as a mission church of First Presbyterian.

Churches, like families, have lives and rhythms of their own.  Recently, the Session at First Presbyterian authorized the development of a Vision Team to work with a Church Transformation Specialist, Tom Bandy.  Bandy is the author of many books about church organization in the current climate and he travels extensively working with churches to help members ignite a new spirit and direction within congregations.

The Vision Team has devised a list of Core Values to be verbal and visual aids in the further development of the plan for First Presbyterian. The working draft of Core Values is as follows:

• Faithful to God's word
• Genuine/Sincere hospitality
• Compassionate caring
• Willingness to change
• Hands on, meaningful outreach

Currently a special class studying Tom Bandy's book "Kicking Habits," meets at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday.  In addition, focus groups made up of church members and interested friends of the church meet on a regular basis.
